Come out paddling with me at my next public group social paddling event, and use one of my boats! You’ll get all the paddling and safety gear you’ll need for our planned trip for $35 (plus tax) per person. I require payment up-front to reserve a rental in order to prevent no-shows (I learned this is necessary the hard way). In the event that we do not go out due to weather, full refunds will be issued. If we do go out and you cancel last minute, I’m unable to issue refunds. limited rentals available
Come join me for for my winter Monday morning ritual, and head out for an early morning on the water at Blue Spring State Park and the surrounding areas of the St. Johns River in Orange City, Florida. We’ll meet at French Landing, a public boat ramp just past the park… and we’ll meet there EARLY, at 7am, to avoid the MASSIVE CROWDS that manatee season at Blue Spring brings.
After getting geared up and going over some quick safety stuff, we’ll get on the river and paddle 10 minutes over to the mouth of the spring run, which pumps out (comparatively) warm water all winter long, and attracts the manatees seeking warmth overnight. We’ll hang there for about 30 minutes, mingling amongst the majestic monsters… or until we’ve had our fill… and then head out and find some other Florida river critters along the St. Johns.
These gentle giants hang out in huge numbers here throughout the winter, and in the early mornings and late evenings, you can sit outside the spring run and observe the manatees as they head in and out, either for warmth or for food. We are always respectful of the manatees when sharing the water with them, and we strive to move around as little as possible when observing them, and allow THEM to come to US! If you are approached by a manatee, please take out your camera… DO NOT reach in and try to touch the animal… that is unlawful, and bad for the animals long term survival. Despite the fact that we can’t touch them, sharing such close quarters with these animals is an UNFORGETABLE experience, every time!
We will generally be on the water for between 2 to 3 hours. If you have your own boat or board, feel free to come along at no charge (tips for your guide are happily accepted, though not required)… if you need to rent a boat, I’ll have them available at $35 per person (single boats only, limited availability). *YOU MUST GET A TICKET.
